Global Recruiter: Report shows lack of diversity in local government leaders

Green Park has launched their latest diversity report, Local Government Leadership 2018, with the findings highlighting Local Authorities failure to diversify at senior levels.

Analysing the top 20 management positions of Chief Executive Officers and their direct reports (Chief Officers), the report find only 3.7 leaders are black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME), a far cry from the total UK working population which is 13% non-white.

The report compares leadership among the UK’s Unitary Authorities, County Councils, District Councils, Metropolitan Boroughs and London Boroughs. Metropolitan Boroughs have one of the most dismal records when it comes to ethnocultural diversity, with no BAME CEO’s in 2017’s or 2018’s report.  County Councils now also have no BAME CEOs, (falling from 3.7 per cent in 2017).
