Green Park recently hosted its annual HR Directors’ Networking Dinner at the prestigious One Lombard Street in the heart of the City of London.
The evening was a resounding success with an inspiring and impassioned speech from guest speaker Paula Nickolds, the first appointed female Managing Director for John Lewis & Partner in its 152-year history.
With most of Britain’s biggest organisations across the Private, Public & Third Sectors indicating a distinct lack of female representation in senior leadership positions, how do you navigate power structures to defy the barriers preventing organisations from truly realising the benefits of a diverse and inclusive workforce.
Having joined as a graduate trainee almost 25 years ago, Paula has worked her way up through the ranks, joining a small, prestigious group of women who have been successful in ‘breaking the glass ceiling’.
Paula reflected on her inspirational career journey to success within John Lewis & Partners, delivering personal anecdotes from the top of the corporate ladder as well as her perspective on the changing world and its impact on the retail sector. She explained just what it takes to be the best in business and also shared how her appointment had given her stronger insight into how women at the top can serve as role models and cultural change agents to help empower women at all levels.
