Co-op Bank

Green Park have been partnering the Co-operative Bank for over five years, throughout the organisations various stages of transition.

Initially the relationship began pre the Co-op bidding for the Lloyds TSB branches and were concurrently integrating the Britannia and creating a new Target Operating Model. It was during this time that Rachael Atkinson, Guy French and Brian Bell, amongst others, were engaged through Green Park at the Bank.


Upon the realisation there was a £1.5Bn capital deficit, the requirements for interims changed as the Bank looked to new funding to survive. With cash injection from new investors and the Co-op Group becoming a minority shareholder, we supported the Bank with a number of Separation Specialists, including the Programme Director, Asset Sale Specialists and HR Support.


As the separation became more robust, the requirements from the bank changed again as the Bank was required to stand up its own capabilities in governance, risk & controls, technology, HR, procurement, operations  and finance. Green Park supported the Bank in providing senior change and line management interims in these capacities, including Interim Heads of IT, Programme Directors and Managers, Head of Recruitment, Head of L&D, Supplier Management, Risk & Compliance Specialists, Operations Leads, Head of Complaints.

Additionally during this time Green Park placed three permanent Risk executives and the Chief Risk Officer. Remediation became, an issue and Green Park were able to provide programme management, technology and operational support to these teams.

From the middle of 2015 and through into 2016, the Bank moved into a stage of transformation,  with Green Park continuing to support through the ongoing hiring of interims and key senior permanent hires. These included the Deputy CIO, Director of Change, Head of Learning & development, Head of Talent and HR Director.


2017 has brought new challenges for the Bank as it manages its cost base whilst preparing for sale or refinancing. The requirements have reduced, however Green Park continues to support the Co-operative bank meeting key decision makers to provide advice and market insight.

Since 2013, Green Park has placed over 150 senior interims with the Co-operative Bank in a true partnership where openness, transparency, honesty and trust form the core of this relationship.
