The Prince’s Trust

Green Park was originally commissioned to help The Prince’s Trust fulfil two remits in late 2014: a new finance director and the inaugural director of programmes and development director.

Having successfully delivered both remits, Green Park had the pleasure of working with the Trust again a year later to replace a long-standing and much-admired HR Director.

We worked closely with the chief executive to define the brief and understand how Green Park might best support her by finding individuals capable of “driving continuous performance improvement, operational excellence, cultural change to support changing ways of working and talent management/succession planning good practice”.

Cultural fit – both with the wider organisation and specifically with the CEO, who had greatly valued the former incumbent’s advisory role – was critical.

Green Park looked in all three sectors, attracting 70 expressions of interest, 14 of which were graded “A”. As with previous roles, there was also internal interest, which needed to be handled professionally, objectively and sensitively.

Following the longlist, Green Park interviewed 11 candidates from the HR community, assessing, among other things, their capacity to operate as a trusted advisor to the CEO and board, their track record of delivering long-term cultural and organisational change, and the quality of their creative and strategic thinking. Five people were recommended for final interview, with the Trust opting to select one further individual to complete the list, which comprised three men and three women. This cohort came from national charities, FTSE 100 and 250 companies, and a public-sector body. Several candidates were deemed to be “above the line”. The appointed candidate, Martyn Dicker, was voted one of the most influential HR leaders in the sector by HR Magazine in 2015.

Martina Milburn, chief executive of The Prince’s Trust, has commented that Green Park has been “pivotal in helping The Trust establish a high-performing senior management team” and that the “advice and guidance has been excellent”.

Green Park was subsequently appointed to find the Trust a new Company Secretary in 2016.
