The global retail and consumer sector is entering one of its most significant periods of change and transformation in its history. Established retailers are having to transform their businesses from traditional models based around stores and square footage to a more omnichannel model, embracing digital and mobile technologies.
The challenge and impact that this will have for consumer leadership is unprecedented, and has caused retail and consumer boards to ask significant questions around what leadership they now require and what this means for their talent strategies and their organisational design. Green Park is at the heart of this global debate.
Global thought leaders
Since 2014, we have been a special adviser on leadership to the World Retail Congress. We have worked together with the World Retail Congress on a number of strategic projects including the “Retail DNA Series” launched in 2016. This relationship has now grown to include EY, True Start and Planet Retail RNG who contributed to our most recent report, The DNA of the Retailers of Tomorrow. These relationships gives us an unparalleled and unique view and access to global retail leadership. It allows us access to some of the world’s leading retailers across the US, UK, Europe, ME and APAC. To date we have interviewed over 200 retail boards around the globe on the key themes impacting global consumer leadership.
Working in long term partnerships with our clients, we help their businesses address these challenges. Our services span executive search, interim executive management and leadership consulting – organisational design, leadership development and diversity and inclusiveness consulting. They are delivered across fashion, lifestyle and luxury, grocery and general merchandise, speciality retail, department stores, and pure-play.
Delivering specialist knowledge
We ensure a best in class delivery across all of our appointments thanks to the unquestionable expertise that exists within our team. Our Retail and Consumer Practice is led by Green Park’s co-founder, Steve Baggi. Steve has over 15 years’ experience in the executive resourcing market, focused on the retail sector. In 2015, he was appointed special adviser to the World Retail Congress on global leadership. He is the author of a number of research projects examining retail leadership, including the landmark “DNA Leadership” series. In 2016, Steve was named in the retail 2016 Movers and Shakers Index.
In 2017, Maria Stanford joined Green Park to lead our Board Practice. Maria spent more than 10 years at Selfridges Group in senior HR roles, most recently as Group HR Director. Maria has developed our Leadership Services capability which focuses on key areas of opportunity for businesses such as Organisation Design, Transformation & Culture and Coaching & Mentoring.
Nick Scott joined us in 2017 having spent the previous 3 years working exclusively for Dave Lewis and the Leadership Team at Tesco. Nick contributed significantly to the Tesco transformation successfully placing over 15 roles in the executive and leadership teams both in the UK and globally.
Also in 2017, Jo Heath joined to lead our Diversity & Inclusion Practice. Jo was previously part of EY’s D&I consultancy practice, having worked in this field for over 20 years. Jo’s focus is advising our clients on enhancing their D&I strategies, whilst also delivering training for managers to increase their understanding of diversity.
Our most recent hire is Jamie Homer whose career to date includes search, in-house talent acquisition and 7 years as European Talent and HR Director for Urban Outfitters and Anthropology. Jamie has extensive experience not only in global search but has also pioneered the concept called ‘The Digital Talent Pipeline’. This global product, which is digital, technology and customer focused, is an international talent scouting programme with a particular focus on candidates from diverse backgrounds.
The addition of Maria, Nick, Jo and Jamie, together with our existing team, has enabled us to work more holistically with consumer leadership teams and provide integrated talent solutions to deliver sustainable organisational effectiveness.
